Each year, the Association hosts a series of education and training programs to promote cross-knowledge transfer, awareness, and skill development.
Among them are triennial summits, biennial conferences, biannual Lunch and Learn training sessions, Regional Hospice Education Days, etc.
In addition to providing quality education and training for hospice societies, public health professionals, volunteers, and the broader community, BCHPCA members receive significant discounts to attend these events, training and educational programs.
The following are some of the events that are scheduled periodically throughout the year.
Check the events page to be kept up-to-date on all upcoming events.
Hospice Education DaysIn addition to providing opportunities for education and professional development, Hospice Education Days are an annual regional co-organized event that brings together interdisciplinary hospice palliative care teams, allied professionals, hospice volunteers, grief and bereavement providers and the community. Theve events are co-organized and hosted by hospice societies throughout the region and is supported and funded by the BCHPCA. In BC, some regions have formulated regional collective, federations and groups to help in furthering their relationships with health authorities, and to support better alignment with the region to increase support, communication amongst hospices and to have a better understanding of services and support of community. These groups include; Vancouver Island Federation of Hospices (VIHoF), Federation of Fraser Region Hospice Societies and Northern Hospice Collaborative. 2024 Northern Hospice Collaborative -"Strength in Coming Together" |
Hospice Volunteer Training ProgramBC and Yukon hospice societies value and recognize their volunteers. Volunteers outnumber full-time staff 10:1 and provide support in a wide range of areas, including fundraising, vigils, grief support, and practical assistance. In 2016, the BCHPCA revised its Hospice Volunteer Facilitator's Guide, originally drafted in 2009, and its Volunteer Standards in 2008. Both the Guide and Standards have been incorporated into hospice societies' training programs since its conception. As a result of the new Volunteer Competencies developed by the BC-CPC and hospice societies in 2021, the BCHPCA is working with hospice societies to co-develop an updated, robust and interactive hospice volunteer training program that will include an updated Guide and Standards. Initially, this training will support hospice volunteers, but it can be used in the future to train volunteers who work in vulnerable settings, palliative care, end-of-life care and grief and loss support. |

Building on the success of our inaugural event in 2021, we are proud to continue our mission of providing a platform for critical conversations and impactful initiatives in the field of mental health support. | |
