About BCHPCA

The BC Hospice Palliative Care Association (BCHPCA) is a open non-profit membership organization dedicated to promoting and bringing awareness of hospice palliative care to British Columbians and Yukoners.

There is an array of hospice palliative care programs and services offered by our members across British Columbia and the Yukon to the bereaved, grieving, terminally ill, and their loved ones. People of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, cultures, religions, and ethnicities can access hospice services

BCHPCA acknowledges and complies with the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association's The Way Forward Initiative and the Government of Canada's Framework on Palliative Care with respect to equitable accessibility and inclusiveness. To provide hospice palliative care to all, it is critical that underserved communities, especially Indigenous peoples, have access to health care options that best meet their needs.

During the year, British Columbia Hospice and Palliative Care Association (BCHPCA) hosts educational programs on topics relevant to health care providers, hospice workers, volunteers, and professional groups and the community as a whole. People from all walks of life can attend and gain value from these events, which range from free to paid, in person to virtual and hybrid.

Our Mission

To provide collaborative leadership on behalf of our members by informing policy and promoting awareness, providing education opportunities, and supporting knowledge exchange and best practices in pursuit of quality hospice palliative care, grief and bereavement services for the people of BC and the Yukon.

Vision

To be the unifying voice of an integrated approach to quality hospice palliative care, grief and bereavement services in BC and the Yukon.

Strategies

Advocacy

BCHPCA is recognized as the unifying voice of Hospice Palliative Care and works to advocate for grief and bereavement to be a priority in current and future health care policies.

Membership Support

BCHPCA works to identify and support member development, advance funding opportunities, provide an array of services to members, and steward strategic networking and collaboration opportunities for all its member organizations.

Education

As a sector leader, BCHPCA helps the public and its members navigate complex healthcare systems, by providing access to effective and relevant resources. BCHPCA coordinates regional, provincial and national education and learning opportunities that promote best practices in service delivery and culturally safe care.

Public Awareness and Collaboration

BCHPCA supports its members by leading important discussions focused on raising public awareness, challenging a culture that avoids discussing death, addressing grief and bereavement, and understanding how providing inclusive services improves end-of life support for individuals in BC and the Yukon.

Internal Capacity and Sustainability

BCHPCA works to intentionally support the capacity of its staff team, interns and volunteers to both strengthen and sustain efforts to further develop sector impact.

Thoughtful Governance

Through its Board of Directors, BCHPCA focuses on the intentional prioritization of accountable leadership, transparency, and responsive interest holder engagement.

BCHPCA respects its relationships and partnerships, is trustworthy, compassionate, caring, progressive, and committed to inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility.

The BC Hospice Palliative Care Association (BCHPCA) recognizes the traditional land of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples who have walked before us and minded the lands we now call home for time immemorial. Hospice Societies have been able to support, aid and care for many people on these same lands.

The BCHPCA Offices are located on the ancestral, traditional, and unceded lands of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and TsleilWaututh Nations.
