Two-Sprit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans+, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, plus are the various identities one may hold that make up the 2SLGBTQIA+ acronym. This acronym may appear to consist of a cohesive and similar group of people. However, it is not. Inclusive care requires understanding the unique experiences and needs of each identity in this acronym. The Genderbread Person, which was developed by Sam Kellermann through research and focus group discussions, is one of the best ways to visualize the difference between gender, sex and sexual orientation. Please take some time to review and share it within your hospice, click here for the full Genderbread Person package. Hospice staff, volunteers, and anyone else who is interested, can find books and resources on It's Pronounced Metrosexual that help create safe space for 2SLGBTQIA+ people. Sam Kellermann also did a TedX talk where he explains sex, gender identity and gender expression in about 15 minutes in a fun and informative way. This Pride Progress flag was designed to represent the ongoing human rights struggle of Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (2SLGBTQIA+) people all over the world. This flag was designed by Valentino Vecchietti and was released shortly before pride 2021. This flag looks very different from the original pride flag that was just the colours of the rainbow. The BC Hospice Palliative Care Association (BCHPCA) recognizes the traditional land of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples who have walked before us and minded the lands we now call home for time immemorial.
