Two-Sprit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans+, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, plus are the various identities one may hold that make up the 2SLGBTQIA+ acronym. This acronym may appear to consist of a cohesive and similar group of people. However, it is not. Inclusive care requires understanding the unique experiences and needs of each identity in this acronym. The Genderbread Person, which was developed by Sam Kellermann through research and focus group discussions, is one of the best ways to visualize the difference between gender, sex and sexual orientation. Please take some time to review and share it within your hospice, click here for the full Genderbread Person package. Hospice staff, volunteers, and anyone else who is interested, can find books and resources on It's Pronounced Metrosexual that help create safe space for 2SLGBTQIA+ people. Sam Kellermann also did a TedX talk where he explains sex, gender identity and gender expression in about 15 minutes in a fun and informative way.
