Tis the holiday season and the end of one year and the start of another seem to inspire us to reflect naturally. It typically is filled with wrapping up projects, while wrapping presents, planning strategic initiatives for the coming year while planning family celebrations, reviewing the year-end budget (yes, BCHPCA follows a calendar fiscal year – don’t ask) while trying to figure out how to suffice everyone’s Christmas ask while staying on budget (I always find a way;) and reflecting on personal accomplishments while analyzing objectives met, yes, you guessed it, I think a lot! But it’s all part of a great end of a tremendous year, and thinking of the future.

Without stating the obvious, these past couple of years have been challenging and, surprisingly resilience has been the consistent factor for all, along with determination and fruitful partnerships, we have been able to move the dial – thank you!
We have seen historical events and unforeseen changes to work and home lives, and it has also been a year of learning for all of us, either at the team or individual level.

The one thing I’ve learned is that the Hospice community is one of grit, perseverance and compassion. And as I consider the coming of 2023 and our future growth, partnerships, education and awareness campaigns, this is something we will strive to ensure is reflected as we continue to share the stories, the wins, losses and the lives that our hospices societies have touched and will continue to do so in the name of the people who access hospice palliative care in our communities.

I can’t say thank you enough to our incredible Board of Directors. I’m truly humbled by and beyond appreciative of your relentless commitment to the cause, dedication to your work, and genuine care for the people of BC and the Yukon.
2023 is going to be even bigger and better for BCHPCA and our hospice societies!

Wishing the BCHPCA board, staff/interns, members, partners and the community a joyous, safe, healthy holiday season and a Happy New Year.

Sincerely,

Pablita Thomas
