Each year, the BC Hospice Palliative Care Association (BCHPCA) brings together experts, advocates, and community members for its Lunch & Learn Series, offering insightful discussions on key topics in hospice and palliative care. BCHPCA is committed to amplifying hospice palliative care voices across British Columbia and the Yukon, because hospice care isn't peripheral to our health system; it's foundational.

Join our upcoming 5-day interactive sessions: Voices Forward: Hospice Advocacy Strategies for Impact, Policy, Funding, and Equity. Designed for hospice leads, volunteers, healthcare providers, community partners, and policymakers, this series will equip you with practical tools to:

  • Engage policymakers and advocate for sustainable funding
  • Center equity and community voice in hospice advocacy
  • Craft compelling impact stories that drive change and resonate with decision-makers
  • Foster regional and province-wide collaboration for real results

Session Description:

Day 1 - Equity Matters to Queer and Trans People
This session will explore how equity considerations influence access to hospice and palliative care, the health sector and social services programming, with a focus on the experiences of Jewish queer and trans seniors in healthcare settings. Participants will gain insight into intersecting barriers such as ageism, antisemitism, and queerphobia, and reflect on practical ways to strengthen inclusive care and community engagement. Please join Carmel Tanaka (she/her), from JQT Vancouver, for this inspiring and well-informed session. More details on this event to come. This session is for all organizations, not only hospice and palliative care providers.

Day 2 - Defining Impact: Hospice Societies as Essential Infrastructure
This session will explore how hospice societies contribute measurable value to British Columbia’s health and community systems. Participants will learn how to use evidence, impact data, and outcome stories to strengthen funding applications, advocacy efforts, and community awareness. Practical examples will support hospice teams in confidently presenting their role as essential care partners.
Please join Daniel Ordoñez Mantilla (he/him) and Pablita Thomas (elle/her) from BCHPCA for this practical and evidence informed session. Day 3 -Equity in Every Process: Policy Review Through a Compassionate Lens
This interactive session will focus on how organizations can review and strengthen policies, communications, and advocacy approaches through a trauma-informed and equity-focused lens. Participants will reflect on real workplace scenarios and identify small, meaningful changes that can improve safety, inclusion, and responsiveness in hospice environments.
Please join Emily Gibson (she/her) for this engaging and reflective session. More details on this event to come. This session is for all organizations, not only hospice and palliative care providers.

Day 4 - Impact Narratives: Securing Funding Through Real Hospice Outcomes

Participants will hear practical examples of how organizations demonstrate value, build relationships, and explore innovative or non traditional funding approaches to strengthen programs and reach.
Please join hospice presenters from across the province for this practical and experience based session. More details on this event to come.

Day 5 - Amplifying Hospice Voices: Practical Advocacy Strategies

The BC Hospice Palliative Care Association (BCHPCA) recognizes the traditional land of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples who have walked before us and minded the lands we now call home for time immemorial. Hospice Societies have been able to support, aid and care for many people on these same lands.

The BCHPCA Offices are located on the ancestral, traditional, and unceded lands of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and TsleilWaututh Nations.
