British Columbia will hold a provincial election on Saturday, October 24, 2026 , following Premier David Eby's announcement on September 22.
The provincial election will take place just one week after B.C.'s scheduled local government elections on October 17 , creating two important opportunities for communities to learn about candidates' positions on health, community care and local services.
For the BC Hospice Palliative Care Association (BCHPCA) and our network of hospice societies, this is a timely opportunity to maintain awareness of the essential role of community hospice palliative care across British Columbia.
Why This Matters to Hospice Societies
Hospice societies contribute to the well-being of individuals, families and communities through end-of-life care, grief and bereavement support, volunteer programs, education and connections to health and community services.
Many societies serve communities outside British Columbia's major metropolitan and large urban centres, with the network heavily represented across rural hubs, rural, remote and small-urban communities.
These experiences provide an important perspective on the accessibility, coordination and sustainability of community-based care.
As candidates share their priorities for British Columbia, BCHPCA will continue to communicate the needs and contributions of hospice societies through consistent, evidence-informed and non-partisan government-relations work.

BCHPCA's ongoing work includes:
- Recognition and integration of community hospice societies within provincial health-system planning.
- Equitable access to hospice palliative care across rural, remote and underserved communities.
- Sustainable support for community-based grief and bereavement services.
- Improved use of standardized hospice data to inform planning, service delivery and investment.
- Stronger collaboration among hospice societies, health authorities, governments and community partners.

Two Elections, Two Distinct Opportunities for Community Awareness
The local and provincial elections concern different levels of government, each with responsibilities that affect the communities hospice societies serve.
BCHPCA is continuing to develop resources to help societies understand these distinctions and participate in informed, respectful and non-partisan discussions about community hospice palliative care.
