5th Annual Wildflower Bloom Campaign (Wednesday, April 01, 2026)

Celebrate compassion in bloom.

Each year, the BC Hospice Palliative Care Association invites communities across British Columbia and Yukon to participate in the Wildflower Bloom Campaign, a simple but meaningful way to honour the work of hospice societies and the volunteers who support compassionate end-of-life care in their communities.

By planting wildflowers, communities create visible reminders of the compassion, care, and connection that hospice volunteers bring to people and families during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Hospice societies across BC provide essential services including grief and bereavement support, caregiver support, palliative care services in home and community, and community outreach and education. Many of these services are made possible through the dedication of trained specialty trained volunteers and exceptional, compassionate staff.

Funds raised through the Wildflower Bloom Campaign support the BC Hospice Palliative Care Association in continuing its provincial advocacy work on behalf of the hospice and palliative care sector. Proceeds also help the Association provide practical support to hospice societies across BC and Yukon, including governance and operational guidance, training opportunities, website and communications development, and other resources, particularly for smaller and rural hospice organizations.

While April is the official campaign month, Wildflower Bloom items can be purchased throughout the year and make meaningful gifts to honour volunteers, remember loved ones, or recognize compassionate care in your community.

We invite individuals, families, and organizations to plant wildflowers in honour of hospice societies play in supporting compassionate communities.

Each year, the BC Hospice Palliative Care Association (BCHPCA) brings together experts, advocates, and community members for its Lunch & Learn Series, offering insightful discussions on key topics in hospice and palliative care. BCHPCA is committed to amplifying hospice palliative care voices across British Columbia and the Yukon, because hospice care isn't peripheral to our health system; it's foundational.

Day 1 - Equity Matters to Jewish Queer and Trans People

️ This session is open to the public — complimentary and free to attend! Whether you're a seasoned hospice professional or simply passionate about palliative care advocacy, everyone is welcome to join this special session at no cost. Zoom link to join: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86781143113.

This session will explore how equity considerations influence access to hospice and palliative care, the health sector and social services programming, with a focus on the experiences of Jewish queer and trans seniors in healthcare settings. Participants will gain insight into intersecting barriers such as ageism, antisemitism, and queerphobia, and reflect on practical ways to strengthen inclusive care and community engagement. Please join Carmel Tanaka (she/her), from JQT Vancouver, for this inspiring and well-informed session. This session is for all organizations, not only hospice and palliative care providers.

Day 2 - Defining Impact: Hospice Societies as Essential Infrastructure
This session will explore how hospice societies contribute measurable value to British Columbia’s health and community systems. Participants will learn how to use evidence, impact data, and outcome stories to strengthen funding applications, advocacy efforts, and community awareness. Practical examples will support hospice teams in confidently presenting their role as essential care partners.

This session is for all organizations as others will learn the true impact of hospice societies on a system level and their contribution to the health and social services sector.

Day 3 -Equity in Every Process: Policy Review Through a Compassionate Lens
This interactive session will focus on how organizations can review and strengthen policies, communications, and advocacy approaches through a trauma-informed and equity-focused lens. Participants will reflect on real workplace scenarios and identify small, meaningful changes that can improve safety, inclusion, and responsiveness in hospice environments.

Day 4 - Impact Narratives: Securing Funding Through Real Hospice Outcomes
This session will explore how hospice societies can communicate service impact and community outcomes to support sustainability and funding conversations. Participants will hear practical examples of how organizations demonstrate value, build relationships, and explore innovative or non traditional funding approaches to strengthen programs and reach.

Day 5 - Amplifying Hospice Voices: Practical Advocacy Strategies
This session will focus on how hospice societies are strengthening community awareness, engaging partners and local leaders, and contributing to broader health system conversations. Presenters will share strategies and lessons learned that have helped increase the visibility and positioning of hospice services, supporting stronger advocacy and community engagement.

This webinar will introduce participants to the Blueprint for Action and explore different types of advocacy and government engagement we can take to help move its priorities forward. Drawing on real advocacy experience from national organizations involved in the Coalition, the session will also demystify how government relations work in practice, including who makes key decisions, when engagement can be most effective, and where advocates can have the greatest impact.
